Parks & Rec
From sunny days to spectacular sunsets and anytime in between, Redding is an ideal setting for running events. Shasta Trail Runs hosts races in Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, including the Whiskeytown Relays where competitors can visit one, two, three or all four of the waterfalls in the park. Event owners can use pre-existing run patterns or tailor one to their needs.
Want something a little dirtier? Redding has opportunities for mud runs and more. Races range from a 5K relay to marathons, and everything in between. The annual Redding Marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifier and also includes a marathon relay and a 5K run. The route takes athletes along the Sacramento River National Recreation Trail and Redding landmarks. It begins at Shasta Dam with stunning riverside views, travels through an old railroad tunnel and across the historic Diestelhorst Bridge and finishes on the internationally acclaimed Sundial Bridge. Aside of the four major ones the CASA Superhero Runin November is a 5K and 10K fundraiser to raise awareness for neglected and abused children. There are weekly Frosty Fun Runs in the winter and a more competitive race in March with the Nor Cal John Frank Memorial at Lake Redding and the Lower Sacramento River National Recreation Trail, which is a USA Track and Field Championship race.
