Located on Route 10 across from the Chesterfield County Airport, the Harry G. Daniel Park at Iron Bridge is the county’s largest with 365 acres that feature baseball, softball, soccer and football fields, basketball, tennis and handball/racquetball courts, picnic shelters, trails, fitness equipment, and playground. The park also includes the First Tee Chesterfield golf course.

The Tattersall Youth Development Center opened in 2000 and continues to be one of the best public golf options in Chesterfield County. The 18-hole, par 66 executive course is perfect for all golfers - from those seeking a quick round, to those working to sharpen their games. The facility also features a full practice facility and a 3-hole discovery course for those just getting into golf.

Only 3 miles from Harry G. Daniel Park at Iron Bridge Softball Complex is Chesterfield County’s elite, dedicated fast pitch complex. Bird Athletic Complex features six fully lit fields, and when paired with Harry G. Daniel Park, makes Chesterfield County the softball capital of the Mid-Atlantic.

The first Chesterfield County Fair was held October 25-26, 1911, at what is now the Chesterfield government services complex encompassing the Mimms Loop and Lori Road areas. The concept for developing an agricultural fair originated with Senator John Benjamin Watkins (a co-founder of Watkins Nursery) who was selected as the Chesterfield County Fair Association’s first president, a position he held until his death in 1931. The Fair provided local farmers an opportunity to display the items they raised and a place to come together and get reacquainted with friends. Throughout our more than 100 year history, we have proudly continued this tradition. Our Arts & Crafts Building, built in 1998, is brimming to capacity each year with canned goods, flowers, vegetables, needlework and art work. Hundreds of items are entered for judging, just as before, and the goal is to win the Blue Ribbon.

Built as a replica of the county’s 1750 Courthouse, the museum is located directly behind the historic 1917 courthouse. The Old Jail, adjacent to the museum, was built in 1892 and housed prisoners for 70 years. A Civil War Trails sign is located nearby which describes the April 1865 retreat from Petersburg through the county by Robert E. Lee’s Confederate Army. Tours of the Old Jail begin at the County Museum.

The Chesterfield County Courthouse Green is a Virginia Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The area has served as the seat of local government since 1749 other than during brief time when Manchester was home to the court. The Historic 1917 Courthouse, which currently stands on the site of the original 1749 Courthouse, served as the county’s Circuit Court until the late 1960’s when a new courthouse was built. Constructed of American bond brick in the Colonial Revival style, the structure is adorned with a Roman Doric portico and domed octagonal belfry. The bell was reinstalled from the original 1749 Courthouse.

Historic Chesterfield Courthouse

The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia is based at an historic home, Castlewood, which contains its offices, library and is a research facility for the history of the county and its families. This unique Federal-style house was built in 1817 by county clerk Parke Poindexter and features a formal five-part layout that is unique among Virginia’s other recorded historic dwellings. The collection contains manuscript collections, rare books, database of veterans, family history files, cemetery files, scrapbooks maps and pictures. The public is welcome to use the library at no charge.

Castlewood Plantation

This 187-acre park is conveniently located in central Chesterfield across from the county airport off of Route 288. Numerous diamond and rectangular fields including 14 lighted baseball/softball fields, game courts, shelters, and trails make this park a popular destination for a wide range of recreational activities. The park is also located next to The First Tee golf course.
