The 33,000-acre Chippewa County Forest offers a wide range of outdoor recreation opportunities. Much of the forest is located within the glaciated terminal moraine, created by the former Wisconsin Glacier. It consists of Oak, Aspen, and hardwood trees, with wetlands and lakes in the low-lying areas. The rolling topography offers some excellent terrain for a variety of recreational trails. The Hickory Ridge and River Road Trails offer over 12 miles for cross-country skiing, mountain biking, and hiking. Over half of the Ice Age Hiking Trail in Chippewa County is located within the County Forest. In addition, there are many miles of old logging trails that offer hiking opportunities. The snowmobile trails wind through the forest, and there are over 19 miles of ATV Trails. For the horseback rider, there are over 22 miles of horse trails. Hunting, camping, and berry picking are also popular activities within the County Forest.

SPORTS EVENT PLANNING
Being active in our backyard is a part of who we are – whether it be pedaling the hundreds of miles of bike trails or cheering on family at a ball tournament. With nature right outside any door or field, visitors love coming to the area for events and all that Chippewa County has to offer. We are home to many successful baseball, softball, hockey, and soccer tournaments of national and regional status. Not to mention we have 449 lakes, including a 6,000 acre Lake Wissota, so waterways for fishing, boating and jet ski competitions.

There is continued growth in our sporting venues seen in Lake Hallie with the opening of a new large sporting venue Valley Sports Academy, the build of a new 18-hole disc golf course in Chippewa Falls; and in 2024, an 18 court pickleball venue in Lake Hallie. Casper Park and Hallie Park are within 2 miles of each other and expand the capabilities to host a larger tournament at both complexes.
