Children's Lake

Charming and scenic seven-acre, man-made lake with perfectly clear water that literally bubbles in the middle of Boiling Springs. Take a stroll down Lover's Walk, admire the lovely historic buildings and gardens, and feed the ducks and swans. Pick up lunch at Caffe 101 across the road or bring a picnic lunch and relax under the weeping willows. For special occasions rent the gazebo next to the lake.

The Appalachian Trail runs along the side of the lake. Stop at the Appalachian Trail Conservancy for information, maps and short hikes from the lake. Walk south past the historic iron furnace, through a small riparian woodlands, and agricultural fields.

Fishing: The lake is spring-fed and stocked with trout, and is open to all ages for fishing. During the first month of trout season a section along the Appalachian Trail is open to children 12 and under only. Boating: Take a leisurely paddle in a shallow-draft boat, electric-motored boat, or canoe.

Birding: Resident ducks, geese, and a few Mute Swans, make the lake their home throughout the year. Also watch for the occasional Common Loon, Bald Eagles, Osprey, Hooded Mergansers and American Widgeons. In the woodlands downstream, watch and listen for a variety of birds including Baltimore Orioles, Belted Kingfishers, and Red-eyed Vieros.
