About Macalester College

Leonard Center Athletic & Wellness Complex: The $45 million, 175,000-square foot Leonard Center was completed in August, 2008, and provides Macalester students with one of the best workout, practice and competition venues among the nation's small liberal arts colleges. Its natatorium, 200-meter track, and gymnasium qualify Macalester to host regional and national competitions. A fitness center, multipurpose rooms, health services offices, comfortable gathering areas, and a small juice bar make it the place for students to work out, play and relax.

Macalaster Stadium/Dayton Track: Home of the Macalester football, soccer, and track & field teams, Macalester Stadium was built in 1964 and seats 4,000 spectators. The nine-lane wide-turn Dayton Track has attracted the NCAA Division III championships in 1997 and 2001 and the FieldTurf playing surface gives the fall sports teams great field conditions throughout the fall and spring seasons. The seating capacity and FieldTurf surface, along with the highly-rated track & field venue, allows Macalester to host several large high school events each year.

Nicholson Baseball Field & Macalester Softball Complex: Constructed while the Leonard Center was being built, Macalester's new baseball and softball fields are located adjacent to each other on the southeast corner of the campus, just west of the stadium. The cozy dimensions and high outfield dimensions of the Nicholson Baseball Field will make for exciting games. An indoor press box overlooks both diamonds and the dugouts are spacious and comfortable.

Hayden Tennis Courts: Macalester has six newly resurfaced courts sitting between the Olin/Rice Hall of Science and the new baseball field. Youth groups and summer camps use the Macalester courts in summer months, while Scot teams use it for practice and matches in the spring and fall.

Alumni Gymnasium: The Alumni Gymnasium seats up to 1,200 spectators for basketball and volleyball games, 50 percent more than the previous space, and is state-of-the-art in all regards. The wood floor is considered top-of-the-line and the steep angle of the bleachers allow fans to be close to the action. The gym is easily accessible from both the Snelling Avenue and campus entrances. Click here for a 360 degree view of Alumni Gymnasium (requires Macromedia Flash (6.0 or higher) Quicktime)

Field House & Clement Track: The field house will accommodate four multipurpose courts and a 200-meter indoor track. The field house will host several indoor track events and can accommodate multiple sports practicing at the same time. Tennis and volleyball nets can be set up at anytime for the recreational users. During the busy late-winter period, Macalester basketball, baseball, softball, tennis and track & field teams can practice without getting in each other's way because of an elaborate system of screens. Riley Pool/Leonard Natatorium: The Riley Pool has been built with 10 lanes and includes the most up-to-date timing equipment. It is 25 yards by 25 meters. The pool configuration offers a “double deep” water polo course, an expanded shallow area for teaching classes, and ample space for swimmers and divers to practice simultaneously. Deno Fitness Center: The 9,000 square-foot fitness area triples the previous amount of space available to students. Students will have access to state-of-the-art cardio equipment, circuit-training equipment and free weights. The fitness center is run by a full-time strength and conditioning professional. 360 degree views of the Deno Center: Movie 1 | Movie 2 ( requires Macromedia Flash (6.0 or higher) Quicktime)

Racquetball/Squash Courts: Macalester has a pair of racquetball / squash courts in the upper level of the complex.

Multipurpose Rooms: Several multipurpose rooms provide space for students to take a wide variety of activity classes such as: yoga, Pilates, aerobics, tai chi and ballroom dance.
