And for the pros, almost pros, not even close to pros and people who just like to cheer, the countless sporting events that take place here every year are a special treat. They’re a chance for everyone to enjoy, if even for a weekend, the special place we get to take in all year.

The Sugarloaf Marathon & 15K, an official qualifier for the Boston Marathon, draws global runners to scenic Western Maine. Certified by USATF, it’s one of the nation's fastest courses, with 1,500 participants.[

Located in the mountains of Western Maine, the Sugarloaf Marathon follows scenic Route 27 as it winds through the Bigelow Mountain range and follows alongside the Carrabassett River. The course starts in the town of Eustis, travels through Carrabassett Valley, and finishes in the town of Kingfield. The 15K race starts in Carrabassett Valley. The first 5 miles of the marathon are relatively flat, and miles 5 through 10 consist of rolling hills with two miles of steady climbing at mile 8. The last 16 miles descend gradually. 17 aid stations will be available to participants along the course.

The Great World Peace 5K

Flat and fast double loop course profile. Starting and finishing at Hayford Park on 13th Street in Bangor, ME. Start on 13th take a right on Hammond Street, take a right onto Dean St, take a right onto 14th Street, take a right on Frances St, left onto Manners Street, Right onto Union St, Right onto 13th street for the first loop, continue for a second loop to complete the race. Course will have mile markers and directional arrows painted on the ground. This race is to promote good health and focus on world peace.

The Great World Peace 5K

The International Ride of Silence is held on the third Wednesday of May every year. The ride honors vulnerable road users who have been injured or killed by traffic violence while bicycling, raises awareness that bicyclists have a legal right to use the road, and reminds motorists to respectfully share the road with all users. Join cyclists worldwide in a silent, slow-paced ride to commemorate those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roadways.

The Bicycle Coalition of Maine is the state coordinator for the Ride of Silence, working with groups and individuals to host a ride in Portland and support rides across the state.

Rick's Run

With long runs on Saturday, short runs on Sunday, and lots of other fun all weekend the Trail Festival at Pineland Farms has a challenge for everyone, even your dogs! Trail Festival courses are inviting, yet challenging, with rolling double track trails. While they are not exceedingly technical, these are trails so you should expect rocks, roots, and ruts.

Every step taken together builds a stronger community and a belief that we can do so much more together than divided. Some of us walk and some of us run to where we are going, no matter how we get there, we get there together. This walk & race is a fundraiser for the thousands of people throughout Maine that are not just going without sneakers to walk in but also without a support system or hope. Let’s do what we can to change that.

This is a family friendly event that brings together students, families, local businesses, and community members for a morning of fun, fitness, and fundraising. The event features a 5K run, combined with a 3.5 mile run and 3.5 mile walk. All proceeds will go to Maine Needs to help support our mission of providing basic material goods for individuals and families throughout  Maine.
