The Ann Arbor Sports Commission honors the region’s deeply rooted passion for sports. This enthusiasm has helped create a storied history of successful events.

Dubbed the “Event of the Decade” by the NHL, the 2014 Winter Classic in Ann Arbor drew one of the largest crowds in the history of the league. Amid the picturesque snowfall, the match came down to a nail-biting shootout, in which the Toronto Maple Leafs claimed victory.

When Liverpool FC and Manchester United played in the 2018 International Champions Cup at Michigan Stadium, locals rallied behind English Premier League soccer. 101,254 people packed the stands to see an incredible match, and fans tailgated and cheered on players from all over the world.

In 2024, the NCAA Regional Gymnastics Championships took place at Crisler Center, and Olympian Jordan Bowers earned the all-around title and placed first in floor exercise. These are only a few examples of the incredible venues, resources and local support for sports events in Ann Arbor.
