USA Cycling’s Marathon Mountain Bike Success
The Auburn-Opelika community played a significant role in the recent success of the Marathon Mountain Bike National Championship, which was hosted at Chewacla State Park on June 15. The event, a testament to our community’s passion for sports, drew in top-tier mountain bikers from across the nation. Over 350 riders and 400 spectators, including many of our own residents, filled the state park to watch the nation’s best compete throughout the 26+ miles of trails. After the event, everyone gathered in downtown Opelika to celebrate all the riders, especially the winners, showcasing our community’s spirit and support for sports.
New 50-Meter Competition Pool at Opelika Sportsplex
The Opelika SportsPlex and Aquatics Center has just opened its state-of-the-art outdoor aquatics center, a facility that is set to revolutionize the swimming experience in our community. The highlight of this new addition is a 50-meter competition pool, a perfect training ground for our competitive swimmers and a refreshing spot for our recreational swimmers. With covered seating for 675 spectators, the facility also promises a comfortable and exciting viewing experience for large audiences during swim meets and events. This new addition underscores the Sportsplex’s commitment to promoting health, fitness, and sports tourism in our community, and we can’t wait to see our sports enthusiasts make the most of this new facility.
Yarbrough Tennis Center Named Premier Facility
In another exciting development, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) has recognized the Yarbrough Tennis Center as a premier facility. This prestigious recognition is a testament to the Yarbrough Tennis Center’s commitment to excellence in tennis operations and programming. To qualify for the Premier Facility program, facilities must meet rigorous criteria set forth by the USTA, including membership within the USTA, employment of certified teaching professionals, and compliance with the USTA’s Safe Play program. Premier Facilities must offer a diverse range of tennis programs that cater to players of all levels and interests, and they must maintain high facility maintenance standards.
