Ilchee Statue & Plaza

The "Ilchee" statue, created by sculptor Eric Jensen in 1994, commemorates Ilchee, or “Moon Girl,” a powerful figure from Chinook history. Situated along Vancouver's Waterfront Renaissance Trail, this statue honors her unique role as a female Chinook leader in the early 1800s. Ilchee was the daughter of Chief Comcomly, a respected Chinook leader when Lewis and Clark first documented their encounters with the Chinook people in the region. This statue is part of Ilchee Plaza, designed to celebrate the cultural legacy and continued presence of the Chinook people in the area, who have lived along the Columbia River for thousands of years. The statue portrays Ilchee gazing across the Columbia River, connecting her story to this land and the heritage of the Chinook people.
