Virginia Bike Roots

The park, named for the line of Confederate earthworks that once stretched for more than three miles from the James River to the Appomattox River, still has one of the artillery positions placed along that line. These provided interlocking fields of fire that enabled the Confederates to cover the entire front with a minimum of infantry support. On June 2, 1864, Col. Olin M. Dantzler led an attack toward a nearby Federal position known as Fort Dutton. Dantzler moved his men to within 150 yards of the Union fort, pushing back part of the 7th Connecticut, before he and 16 of his men were killed.

This one-half acre park is located at the extreme end of South Taylor Street. Existing facilities include a picnic shelter, grill, tot lot playground, and one-half basketball court.

This park is the first county developed recreational park. It is located at the corner of Henpeck Road and Quinton Park Trail. Quinton Community Park is equipped with 2 unlit baseball/softball fields, a pavilion, playground, Tot Lot, and 1/2 mile walking path.

Sports Richmond, VA

Join us for a screening of “Patrick Henry’s Scotchtown,” the latest installment in the documentary film series “Historic Homes of Virginia.” This documentary features Professor Michael Spencer and experts from Preservation Virginia to examine Scotchtown during Henry’s years there, including the notes he wrote for his famous “Give me liberty, or give me death!” speech, original construction details, the lives of the enslaved people who lived and worked there and how historic Mutual Assurance policies helped guide the property’s restoration.

  
About the series: Virginia’s historic homes reveal their stories through both architecture and the records left behind. For more than two centuries, Mutual Assurance Society of Virginia policies have documented many of these properties, preserving details that can help historians and preservationists understand how they changed over time. The film series “Historic Homes of Virginia” brings those records together with the people, places and stories that shaped some of the Commonwealth’s most significant homes.  
This program is presented in partnership with Mutual Assurance, which produced the series.
