The Manchester Tour de Barn Quilts is the first of a group of eco-tourism activities being planned featuring the Village of Manchester and surrounding natural areas. This self-guided bike tour is on rural roads beginning and ending in the parking lot at Manchester High School.

The tour travels bucolic byways to look at barn quilts, which are large, colorful quilt blocks on the sides of barns, as well as other historic barns and churches, a farm stand, a Ford mill, and the charming Village of Manchester. The route is 14 to 26 miles long. Included too is an optional 6 mile loop.

Manchester Tour de Barn Quilts

Chi-Bro Park, named after Manchester's popular annual Chicken Broil, has a 3.5 acre spring-fed pond, small dam, grassy area, woodlot, nature trail, swing sets, two grills, benches and six picnic tables, timber-frame pavilion, wood play structure, flag pole and light, split rail fence, two sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, 9-hole disc golf course and outdoor ice rinks.

A designated cross-country track extends through the park into adjacent property and is also used by the high school teams.

Chi-Bro Park

Every Thursday from 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM, May through October the Farmers Market hosts local farmers and artisans to come and sell directly to customers. Everything grown or made within 100 miles of Manchester.

Kirk Park (3.75 acres) has two fenced baseball diamonds, four dugout benches, four sets of bleachers, a pavilion with picnic tables, two swing sets, a basketball court, two tennis courts, one jungle gym, and two parking areas (one is milled asphalt; the other is paved). The teams of the Summer Recreation Little League Program use the baseball fields, and the entire park is used for play by neighborhood youth.

Kirk Park

One of the only distilleries in Michigan batch making spirits from scratch. Their signature product, Cane and Grain, is described as a blend of vodka and rum. Carr Park (approximately 20 acres) has four pavilions with picnic tables, two restrooms, a drinking fountain, parking lots, bicycle rack, softball diamond, backstop, bleachers, two sand volleyball courts, two memorial plaques set in stone, benches, grills, merry-go-round, two swing sets, one slide, one jungle gym, a marsh, and a pond.

This is the site of the Fourth of July community picnic, games, fireworks and the annual Riverfolk Festival. The baseball diamond is used by the Summer Recreation Programs including PeeWee, T-Ball, Little League and softball teams in addition to volleyball and Soccer. It is also a popular play and picnic spot.

Carr Park

Leonard Preserve is the largest natural area in the County's system of NAPP preserves and protects nearly one mile of River Raisin shoreline.

Located just northwest of the Village of Manchester, this rich and diverse landscape includes rolling hills, woodlands, wetlands, prairie and former pasture land.

The diversity of habitats makes for very good wildlife viewing. Wood ducks, coyotes, and blue racers are some of the animals you may see at this preserve.
