Penfield Symphony Orchestra's "Magic & Mystery" Concert - Oct 26, 2026

Music filled with “Magic & Mystery” opens the Penfield Symphony Orchestra’s 71st season on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. It is the first of four concerts scheduled for the 2026–27 season. All concerts are held at the Penfield High School Auditorium.

"It's going to be a great season and I'm really excited to be working with this outstanding group of musicians to perform some fantastic repertoire," said Dr. Jared Chase, who begins his third year as music director and conductor of the PSO. "I would encourage the community to come hear what this orchestra can do!"

The October 26 program features a fantastical journey in Mozart’s Overture to The Magic Flute; out-of-hand sorcery in the Dukas symphonic poem The Sorcerer’s Apprentice; Nordic stoicism in Powell’s Suite from How to Train Your Dragon; wizardly antics in Williams’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Suite; and a hallowed night of witching in Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain (arr. Rimsky-Korsakov).

“What I love about this program is that there’s something on it that almost everyone in the audience will recognize, but there are also plenty of moments that may be completely new to them,” said Chase. “It’s colorful, imaginative, dramatic, and just a lot of fun. I think it’s the kind of concert that can appeal equally to longtime symphony-goers and to someone coming to hear an orchestra for the first time.”

Audiences can learn more about the music in a pre-concert lecture at 6:30 p.m., open to all ticket holders. Individual tickets are $15. Season tickets for the four concerts are again discounted this year at $45. Because of limited seating capacity, tickets for the December 20th Family Holiday Pops Concert may not be used at or exchanged for the December 21st concert.

Founded in 1955, the Penfield Symphony Orchestra (PSO) offers four classical music concerts per season to audiences of all ages. Amateur and professional musicians in the 90-piece orchestra enrich the Rochester community by providing fine classical, modern, and pops music. A 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, the orchestra also sponsors an annual competition where young musicians audition to win recognition and an opportunity to solo with a symphony orchestra. Over its history, the PSO has commissioned many new works, and concerts have featured guest artists of local and national renown.
