Here you will encounter varying types of woodlands—oak and hickory trees are found in locations with drier soils and the wetter woods are dominated by sugar maple and beech trees.

A wetland system is located in the eastern portion of the preserve where you will find a buttonbush swamp and wetland plants such as pawpaw trees, spicebush, and bladdernut. Spring wildflowers are abundant in the preserve, and the wooded habitat is home to some uncommon birds including barred owls and pileated woodpeckers.

Ursa Major is a USA Hockey-sanctioned ice hockey tournament hosted by Big Bear Tournaments in Ann Arbor, Michigan, from November 6–8, 2026. The event welcomes 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U/JV, and 18U/HS Varsity teams across B, A, and AA levels, with divisions also listed for 18U non-contact play. Every team is guaranteed four games, with the fourth serving as a championship or consolation game; game periods range from 13 to 15 minutes by age group. This stay-to-play tournament provides competitive weekend hockey for youth and high-school-age teams.

Ice Pirates is an AAU-sanctioned 8U Full Ice Mites ice hockey tournament hosted by Big Bear Tournaments in Ann Arbor, Michigan, November 6–8, 2026. Designed for B, A, and AA-level youth teams, the event guarantees each team four games, with the fourth serving as a championship or consolation game. The 9th Annual 5K Domestic Violence Awareness Run/Walk is an in-person community event at Frog Island Park in Ypsilanti, Michigan, on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Participants can run or walk alongside friends and family while raising awareness and showing support for people affected by domestic violence. This approximately three-and-a-half-hour event offers a meaningful way for the community to come together in support of survivors.&#x20;

E-Race the Stigma with the Trinity Health Probility Ann Arbor Marathon! Supporting local mental health charities, participants run through the vibrant streets of downtown Ann Arbor, then wind their way through the panoramic University of Michigan campus. The marathon, half-marathon, and 10K courses also encompass stretches along the Huron River and Gallup Park and through Nichols Arboretum before returning to campus and downtown.

The 2026 Women in Sports: ElevateHER Summit, presented by Michigan Athletics, brings together student-athletes, alumni, community members, coaches and attendees for an evening focused on opportunity, leadership and the future of women in sports. Held October 15 at Crisler Center, the event features networking with current and former student-athletes and coaches beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by a panel at 6 p.m. with Michigan alumnae and prominent sports-industry leaders including Andrea Joyce, Kate Johnson, Estee Portnoy, Casey E. Taylor and Li Li Leung. The summit offers storytelling, professional development, networking and mentorship.
