Here you will encounter varying types of woodlands—oak and hickory trees are found in locations with drier soils and the wetter woods are dominated by sugar maple and beech trees.

A wetland system is located in the eastern portion of the preserve where you will find a buttonbush swamp and wetland plants such as pawpaw trees, spicebush, and bladdernut. Spring wildflowers are abundant in the preserve, and the wooded habitat is home to some uncommon birds including barred owls and pileated woodpeckers.

Ice Pirates is an AAU-sanctioned 8U Full Ice Mites ice hockey tournament hosted by Big Bear Tournaments in Ann Arbor, Michigan, November 6–8, 2026. Designed for B, A, and AA-level youth teams, the event guarantees each team four games, with the fourth serving as a championship or consolation game. Teams must follow the tournament’s stay-to-play hotel policy, and game support is provided by an on-site tournament director, with Teresa McManamon identified as the Big Bear Tournament Director.

The marathon, half-marathon, and 10K courses also encompass stretches along the Huron River and Gallup Park and through Nichols Arboretum before returning to campus and downtown.

The 2026 Women in Sports: ElevateHER Summit, presented by Michigan Athletics, brings together student-athletes, alumni, community members, coaches and attendees for an evening focused on opportunity, leadership and the future of women in sports. Held October 15 at Crisler Center, the event features networking with current and former student-athletes and coaches beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by a panel at 6 p.m. with Michigan alumnae and prominent sports-industry leaders including Andrea Joyce, Kate Johnson, Estee Portnoy, Casey E. Taylor and Li Li Leung. The summit offers storytelling, professional development, networking and mentorship.
