Now, with the data from its latest America’s 100 Greatest Public ranking, it’s applying the same method to determine which state has the greatest public golf.

The Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) bureau will use $15 million in Parks System Development Charges (fees paid by developers) to build a skatepark near the Steel Bridge just west of Waterfront Park. The news was announced earlier this month by Parks Commissioner Dan Ryan, who said the investment will be enough to “fully fund” the Steel Bridge Skatepark. Read more here!

Chip Ganassi stopped Alex Palou before Sunday’s race at Portland International Raceway and encouraged his driver to use the race to close out the IndyCar championship. Palou told the boss he planned to do it with a walk-off win. And he delivered. Palou is now a two-time IndyCar champion with Ganassi following a dominant run Sunday that gave him his series-leading fifth win of the season.

That’s the idea behind amputee soccer, which was created so people who have lost limbs or have limb differences can still enjoy the game. On a recent Saturday, PDX Plex, an indoor sports arena in Southwest Portland, hosted Portland’s first amputee soccer clinic.

Sport Oregon19-year-old Rookie Wins LPGA Portland Classic
Ten days ago, Chanettee Wannasaen was hoping to find a way to simply qualify for a spot in the LPGA Portland Classic. On Sunday, the 19-year-old rookie from Thailand lifted the trophy as one of the most unlikely winners in the history of the tour. Wannasaen took control of the tournament by going 6 under in a five-hole stretch on the front nine Sunday on the way to a final-round 63 and a tournament-record 26 under par at Columbia Edgewater. The result came out of nowhere, as Wannasaen had missed nine consecutive LPGA cuts and had not finished better than 51st in a tour event this year.

Hayward Field will once again be the site of a global track and field event, as the World Athletics Council announced that Eugene will be the host of the World Athletics U20 Championships in 2026. Oregon athletes have been able to make frequent appearances at the World Athletics U20 Championships, with the 2022 games showcasing high school athletes such as Lake Oswego’s Mia Brahe-Pedersen, Crater’s Tyrone Gorze and Oregon City’s Sophia Beckmon. Saturday was a big day for baseball in the Portland area. It just so happens that the big event for baseball happened all the way in Jamestown, New York. The Portland U15 Babe Ruth baseball team beat a team from Connecticut 6-4 on Saturday to win the 13–15-year-old Babe Ruth World Series. Most of those homegrown kids have been playing baseball together on this team since they were 7 years old– over half of their lives. Read the article here!
